Memoir and Biography
I employed Suzanne to provide editorial assistance in tightening and focusing a memoir manuscript. Suzanne was readily available during the time we worked together and provided exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for, in a professional and timely manner. Suzanne’s help with the manuscript was insightful, intelligent, and respectful, with a sharp eye for the meanings I was struggling to express, in the places where my words still floundered. Suzanne’s assistance with the manuscript helped me get a clearer focus on what I was trying to say, and also offered practical suggestions for how to use dialogue and engage the senses more effectively. Suzanne’s rates were competitive and reasonable and I have no question that the value I received was more than worth the cost. I would not hesitate to use Suzanne’s services again and to refer others who are looking for editorial assistance. If the process of writing were to be compared to giving birth, then I would highly recommend Suzanne as an expert, trustworthy and talented midwife.

Suzanne edited my memoir, Éva’s Chronicle 1930–2009: The Life and Times of an Architect, within an extremely tight deadline. In addition to correcting grammatical mistakes (English is not my mother tongue, nor did I study English in school), Suzanne fact-checked numerous names and dates, as well as titles of journals, books, pieces of popular and classical music and films. During the course of the project, she kept in touch with me constantly to ensure that corrections were made to my satisfaction. Her interaction with me was always professional, and I was pleased that she improved my text while keeping my voice and writing style intact. The result of her work made my memoir an interesting and informative read for my family and friends.

Suzanne reviewed my "completed" draft of a biography-memoir and discussed overall strengths and weaknesses. Her substantive edit of a second draft pointed out a serious flaw in organization and flow, for which she suggested significant, yet reasonably simple fixes. In retrospect — six months after publication — I can see that these changes essentially saved nine years of work. My readers tell me this is so.

During my recent four-year tenure as Editor-in-Chief of the Faculty of Theology's peer-reviewed journal Theoforum, one of three learned journals published by Saint Paul University in Ottawa, I hired Ms. Suzanne Nussey as a copy editor and proofreader for English language article submissions. Theoforum is a world-class journal, enjoying a wide distribution on all continents, and containing articles from an international field of authors who engage in highly technical research in the multiple facets of its discipline. Ms. Nussey was more than up to the task. She was always meticulous, thorough, and timely. Her expertise in grammar, syntax, and writing; her experience teaching writing in a number of academic settings; her record as a published essayist and poet—all were valuable assets contributing to the excellence of the work she accomplished for our journal. I was able to consult her at a moment's notice for advice on more demanding matters that arose occasionally. I have recommended her to colleagues and doctoral students at the university, and will unhesitatingly continue to do so.

My work with Suzanne while I was a graduate student proved to be a helpful and rewarding experience. Suzanne brought a skilled eye in the revision of my PhD thesis, along with thoughtful editing insights. Her attention to detail and her work ethic enabled me to meet my deadlines and produce a final product of great quality. It has been, and continues to be, a pleasure working with Suzanne. In fact, members of my department, including myself, continue to refer graduate students to Suzanne for help with their dissertations.
~Jean Daniel Jacob, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Faculty of Graduate Studies in Nursing, Ottawa University
Suzanne edited a number of chapters of my master’s thesis in Nursing. Suzanne proofread, organized content, copy edited, and generally made sure that the chapters were comprehensive. In addition, Suzanne assisted me in ensuring that the document was written at the appropriate academic level. Suzanne was an important and valuable part of my thesis experience. She was easily accessible and I always felt that I could contact her for clarifications or questions regarding her feedback. I could see that Suzanne had read each document in detail and thoroughly thought about her feedback before sending it back to me. Suzanne was very quick and often had my documents returned to me with feedback within the week. Suzanne was friendly, approachable and understanding, and after the work was completed, I felt as if I knew Suzanne, although we never met in person during the course of our working together. I would definitely refer Suzanne to others because of her patient approach and also because of how valuable this experience has been to me as a graduate student. She did a wonderful job and I would be eager to work with her again.

Suzanne Nussey brings rich experience to her work as an editor and writer. I have worked with her over the past 15 years, during which time she has provided a range of outstanding editorial services (copy editing, proofreading, writing) for countless books and periodicals aimed at general and academic audiences. Her training as a writer and writing coach serves her well; she is able to improve a text while respecting the author’s voice, all the while keeping in mind the needs of the reader. I continue to learn from her approach to editing. She always meets her deadlines, and is wonderful to work with—efficient and cheerful. Her rates are competitive and she treats her work with great care. Suzanne is eminently capable, diligent and insightful. I highly recommend her to those seeking a qualified, thoughtful editor who will enrich and polish their text.

As a freelance editor for our not-for-profit organization, Suzanne Nussey proofreads and edits our mass emails, personal letters, and content for our website. She has been a delight to work with! Edits and rewrites have been excellent, beyond what we would have come up with on our own. She has often turned things around very quickly and with little notice. I would absolutely recommend her services to any individual or organization!
